Make It Monday-CrafTea Wine Cork Dado Rail

Here's a tutorial on how to make a quirky dado rail to stop your chairs making marks on your wall.

This clever upcycling of wine corks certainly make a good conversation piece in the kitchen!

Here's how this idea came about... The paint color I used in the kitchen had been discontinued so it was impossible to paint over the various chair scratches on my kitchen wall. I tried felt pads on the backs of my chairs but they either didnt stick properly or just didnt work (and looked rather ugly on the back of my chairs). I had aimlessly collected wine corks over the years so I took the plunge and finally decided to put them to use.

All you need are:

Wine corks (about 2 per inch of rail, you can buy them in bulk online)
Hammer
Thin nails

For the nails to keep the corks in place I used 1.4 X 30mm nails - from my local DIY Store. This only cost about 2 euro for 100 nails. You could also super glue the corks to the dado rail using really strong super glue if you dont fancy using a hammer and nails. I decided to go with the nails.

When you have collected enough corks ( you need about 2 to cover 1 inch of space on the dado rail).. simply start hammering the corks in place with the nails. The nail could be placed into the cork by hand and then positioned on the rail, then tapped with the hammer so that they are well secured.
