Paint sample crafts #1 Crocodile Rocks

With all those amazing coloured paint samples we were kindly given.. the deep, bright and shady yellows & greens stood out straight away. What do to with them was the next question!

We knuckled down to creating some original ideas to share with you and heres No.1 of many to come crafts that we've created with the Dulux paint samples.

Great thing about the paint samples is that the colours are fantastic, they are cheap (about a euro or two for a small tub), they usually come with their own brushes, and the coverage is great - they'll paint over just about anything! Even if the paint samples are indoor paints you can apply a coat of waterproof varnish so the painted item can live outdoors.

.. So with some odd shaped rocks lying about in the garden it didnt take long before the image of a crocodile came to mind and with all those shades of green & yellow paint in the sample pots it was too easy to resit making a crocodile out of rocks.  .....Cue Elton John Crocodile Rock playing in the background as you make this fun craft!

I simply started by finding some triangular shapes of varying sizes to make the head. body, tail and legs of the crocodile.

Depending on the rocks you find, you'll need about 4-8 rocks for the head, body & tail and 4more thin shaped rocks for the legs. cleaning the rocks. It helped I had triangular shapes in the garden (due to some heavy building work that went on some years ago and lots of shale rocks which weather easily).

Lay whatever you find out on a flat surface to suss out if all the different parts look like a crocodile. He can be very flexible so dont worry if it looks a little unlike a crocodile with the pieces you find.. the green paint will seal the deal and he will look like croc in no time.

If your rocks were as clay /bird poop covered as mine.. they may need a quick rinse and dry before they are ready to paint.

Paint away with those great green shades, then when they are dry, if you plan to leave them outside a coat of outdoor varnish will seal in the paint so it wont wash away in the rain.

Instead of painting on white eyes I decided to superglue on some marbles to make those googly eyes pop out amongst the rocks. If you have googly eyes from a sewing craft kit .. you could totally use them. I dont know how they would weather outside.. but its worth a shot!

How great does this green wiley crocodile look amongst the rocks and leaves. He makes a great garden, rockery or plant pot piece of crafty art!

The kids could have fun hiding him in various places and going on a 'crocodile hunt' for him (or all the individual pieces) around the garden or park.

Keep following to see what we make next out of those 100 Dulux Paint samples!
