No doubt, throughout the pregnancy and first couple of months after your little one arrives, you'll grow in & out of many many clothes as your life and body adapts to this wonderful new arrival. No better reason to upcycle your tshirts and embrace the change with this colorful & easy craft .
You'll need:
Approx 4 Old T-shirts - any colors you like
Card & Marker
Scissors
Invisible thread
Twigs
Start by folding over your card on itself (so there are two layers). Draw a C shape into the card with a smaller C in the middle. You'll need two C shapes to make each pom pom. To vary the size of the t-shirt pom poms I also cut out 2 smaller C shapes.
Cut strips of the tshirts in a continuous (line if possible). The pom poms tend to work best when each strip is about 1-2cm across in width and arms lenght in, well, lenght. Hold your hands out - that's how long you want each strip! Dont worry about jagged edges.. the elastic material in t-shirts causes them to furl when stretched so you wont even notice any dodgy lines like mine.
Cut one strip of tshirt chord to fit along the inside of the C shape card you cut out. Place this small strip along the inside of one of your 'Cs'. Put the other C' on top, sandwiching this small strip of tshirt chord.
Holding the C's together so you sandwich your short chord inside, begin the wrap the tshirt chord tightly (pulling it a little to get the elastic tshirt material stretching) around the C shape card.
Always keep the short chord ends free as you'll need them at the end!
5. Keep going, wrapping pretty tightly so the tshirt material is stretched, until you've used up your long tshirt chord. and the C shape is getting rather chunky land full looking.
Knot the short chords together really tightly. The C shape card that's covered in Tshirt chord will almost turn into a circle.
With the knot still really tightly in place, let the trimming begin! Squeeze your scissors in between the layers of your C shaped card. Cut all around the C shape and your pom pom will start to appear.
When you've cut all around the Cshape card, simply pull away the pieces and you are left with a cute little upcycled tshirt pom pom!
Carry on until you've made enough to hang up!
I then taped two twigs together to make a cross shape and attached some invisible thread to each pom pom and hung it from the twigs.
Tie one final bit of invisible thread to the center of the twigs and hang this from a hook in the ceiling.
Note of caution - Please be careful with home made mobiles if they are hung above baby's bed - if one was to be pulled down or if it was fall down it could pose a suffocation or choking risk to your child. I hung mine above the dresser in her room, so if any pom poms or tshirt strands fell loose my little girl wouldn't be able to get at them :o)
