What To Do With Your Carved Pumpkin After Halloween

Halloween is officially over, but what happens to all those pumpkins after the festivities are over? So much time is spent picking the best pumkpin and carving the coolest shapes and designs to display in your window and now it's all over.

Here are Five things you can do with your pumpkins

1) Put it in a compost bin

Pumpkins are a fantastic source of zinc, phosphorus and iron and makes great compost so instead of throwing them in the bin and taking up space, pop them into your compost bin and if you don't have a compost bin you can simply bury it in your garden and it will decay quickly and enrich the soil

2) Make a cute bird feeder for your garden.
You the empty shell of your pumpkin, chop it in  half and make a bird feeder to hang in your garden.Check out this tutorial here from  May Arts Blog

3) Save The Seeds to Plant Next Year.
Ok it might be a bit late to do this one now if you have already thrown away your seeds this year unless you buy a pumpkin that's on sale this week. It would be a great way to teach the kids how to grow something and imagine their faces next year when they have grown their own pumpkins from seed
Here's a great website  Farm Flavor that teaches you all the tricks of growing your own pumpkins from seed.

4) Feed the animals
Pumpkins are super tasty and a really good food source, so it's such a waste to just dump them after we have had our fun at Halloween. Why not contact your local farm or zoo and ask them is they would like pumpkin donations for the animals.

5) Chuckin Pumpkin Painting.
We love this  pumpkin painting idea from Childhood Beckons the kids can get messy (outside) and it looks like so much fun, I want to try it myself!
