We just adore Halloween and all the kooky creativity that comes with it.
In particular, the upcoming Bram Stoker Festival in Dublin this October Bank
Holiday 2013 got our creative juices flowing. Inspired by the work and legacy of Irish horror novelist Bram Stoker and
his gothic novel 'Dracula', we created these spooky spectacles from
egg cartons to bring out the bat
in the little vampires we know!!
And here's how...
All you need is:
1 Large egg carton
Black paint
black & gold markers
Scissors
2 Pipe Cleaners
1. Follow our pictures below to draw
the bat shape onto the egg carton, then cut along the black lines to make the
vampire bat shaped spectacle frames with a small scissors.
2. Cut out the eyes so you can see through
the funny frames.
3. Cut a small slit at the back of the glasses to
thread the pipe-cleaners through for the arms of the glasses.
4. Paint your vampire bat black and leave to dry.
Add extra detail you like with gold marker, glitter or paint. It's optional,
but our Craftea Tip is to staple the egg carton (from the inside) around the
bridge of the nose. This trick "lifts" up the wings to give the
impression the bat is flying!!! If you do this, just tape over the staple to
protect skin!
5. Thread a pipe cleaner through each slit and
secure in place to make the arms of the glasses. Curl each pipe-cleaner so it
will fit around your ears.
....finally, adjust attitude accordingly to go with
your new crazy vampire bat spectacles!!!
Why not don your
DIY Bat Spectcales at the various events celebrating all things macabre,
strange, supernatural mixed with some good-old fashioned Halloween fun from Saturday
26th through to Monday 28th October, 2013.
There’ll be free
pop-up performances of spine-chilling street theatre and sinister sounds, a
city-wide Vampire Hunt for families and friends, spooky movies in the open-air,
blood curdling literary happenings, terrifying theatre, walks & talks, and
a very special event will take place in the spectacular surrounds of Dublin
Castle.
