These newspaper pirate hats are great for a pirate themed party on a budget or if you are just looking for something fun to make with the kids. Check out the previous pirate hat tutorial on our blog here, or get some ideas below for a twist on the traditional hat!!
What you need:
Sheet of old newspaper
Paints
White paper
Scissors
Glue
Marker
Optional - glitter spray
Instructions:
1.Take four sheets of newspaper folded over and place in front of you with the opening of the paper closest to you
2. Fold the top corners of the paper in towards each other on both sides
3.Lift the front bottom flap and fold it up.
4. Flip the paper up and lift the flap up on the other side.
5. Use a stapler on either side.
6. We cut the scallop shapes into the folded up piece of newspaper, then glued the layers down so the scallop shapes didn't separate when the hat was worn.
7. Roughly draw out a skull & crossbones on a white sheet of paper and cut out.
8. Paint the hat in the desired color. For fun, try a zig zag pattern to give add a chevron design!
9. When the paint is dry, glue the skull and crossbones to the hat. Its optional, but glitter varnish or spray adds a sparkly sheen to the hats at the end.
