Painted Pumpkins
A painted pumkin is a fun way to put a twist on Halloween and the great thing is that it won't rot as fast as a normal carved pumpkin and they are much more kiddy friendly as you don't need any sharp objects to make these. A perfect arts and crafts project to do this Halloween.
What you need:
Pumpkins
Paint
Paint brush
Varnish
Instructions:
1) When choosing your pumkins look for a nice shaped pumkin with not too many lumps or bumps. Also check that your pumpkin is flat at the bottom so that it will sit upright.
2) Use a damp cloth to clean your pumkin and get rid of any residue.
3) If you like you can paint on a layer of clear varnish as it will also help the paint to stick and it slows down the evaporation of moisture from the pumpkin helping it to last longer.
4) Decide on what design/colour you are going to paint your pumpkin. If you are not confident do an outline first with a stencil or a marker
5)Now for the fun bit..get painting. You may need to paint your pumpkin in stages, let one layer dry, come back later and do another layer. I found with the lighter colors I needed to do at least two layers.
6) When you have finished consider adding another layer of varnish to protect your pumpkin.
