CrafTea DIY Fabric Necklace .... from a knotted scarf!

With lots of old scarves hanging about aimlessly this summer (and not looking fantastic draped around my neck either!) I decided to try something creative with them so they could be put to use on these sunny days.
What You’ll Need
Scarf – silk or fabric – you can pick them up cheap in charity shops or Penneys
Ribbon scraps or any string
Fabric Glue ( / Needle & Thread
Optional: Any embellishments or jewellery bits you have

Heres how you do it..

Simply roll up your scarf and tie some knots along the scarf.
Depending how big or small you want the beads (i.e. the knots) you may need to cut the fabric in half  length ways  for smaller knots) or double it up to make larger knots. You could try a variety of fancy knots, but seeing as I only know the basic one I went with that!
When you are done simply attach ribbon or string to the back of the end knots so its secure using fabric glue (Beacon Fabri-Tac is very good) or a simple couple of tacking stictches using needle & thread.

The great thing about this craft idea is that its so flexible. The knots can be any size, spaced differently, and less or more can have such different effects. The necklace can be short or long depending on the outfit you’d like to put it with. Even better is that you cant go wrong because if you don’t like what you’ve done .. you can undo the knots.

You can fray the material for a shabby chic effect

...Or add odd bits of jewellery, embellishments or some pearl beads to the fabric with fabric glue or a sew them on with a needle and thread to add your own unique twist.

I made this one for my little girl to match a party dress.. photo to come!

Hope youve enjoyed this tutorial on how to upcycle your scarves.
